TYPES OF ROPE WE OFFER:
- Vertical-covered circus ropes in a length and colour of your choosing
- Clouds, with an added rigging point either end. These can be in either steel or a soft loop
- Ropes for Trapeze. These ropes come with a 10mm oval bottom, soft loop or integrated bar.
- Ropes for Aerial Hoop, either twin or single strand to be choked onto bar.
The standard length of a vertical rope is 8 metres and we can create any length for you up to a maximum possible of 30 metres.
Fun fact: 26 metres is currently our record!
ROPE COVERS
There are four different cover textures available:
- Original Smooth
- Semi-Smooth
- Medium-Rough
- Extra-Rough.
Original smooth is the softest. Extra-rough is advised if you want an extra amount of friction and texture.
All covers have a circumference of approximately 105-106 mm. The only exception is the thinner Medium-Rough cover in 90mm for twin strands with loop-chokes for Aerial Hoop.
COLOURS
Leo Ropes offers a huge range of colours for you to choose from. By mixing different hues we can create a cover in virtually any colour you want! We also currently offer two fluorescent dyes in neon yellow and green.
In addition to single block colours, ropes can be dyed with a fade/ombre effect and patterned effect in multiple different colours.
Take a look at some of the colours and patterns we’ve created in the past on our IG page.
If you have a special request for a dye just let us know. Previous cover patterns we’ve produced for clients include peacock feathers, a holiday lagoon, Star Wars and the coat of a beloved dog!
PLEASE NOTE: Colours can look different on screens and monitors, so if you are looking for an exact colour you are welcome to send us a colour reference to match to your rope – for example, from the Pantone colours chart.
While every effort is made to give our customers what they ask for, due to the meticulous hand-dyeing process, there can be minor variations in hue. If you’re not satisfied please get in touch.
CORE THICKNESS:
- Skinny core: Rope circumference 89-90mm - diameter ~ 28 mm
- Slightly skinny core: Rope circumference 91-92mm - diameter ~ 29 mm
- Medium core: Rope circumference 93-94mm - diameter ~ 30mm
- Fat core: Rope circumference 96-97mm - diameter ~ 31 mm
The core of the rope sits inside the cotton cover. The in-use (when squeezed hard) circumference/diameter of your rope depends on the core thickness. The core will make your rope either fat or skinny, depending on what you prefer. Let us know how thick you would like your rope’s core to be. We recommend Medium thickness if you are unsure what your preference is. Fat ropes are a little less malleable.
Loop-chokes for Aerial Hoop with 90mm medium-rough cover measure 23.5-24mm in-use diameter, and 32mm gripped together.
PLEASE BEAR IN MIND: Our ropes are all lovingly handmade and exact thickness can vary by up to 0.5 mm. The core and cover will compact with use and older rope can have almost 1mm less diameter than new rope.
LEAD TIME
The average order time is between 4 to 7 weeks for a custom rope. Please ask if you need your rope sooner to see if we have any rush slots available. For an additional fee, it may be possible to produce your rope sooner.
Short wait - Stock list: We have a limted stock list of pre-made ropes that are ready to ship within 1 to 2 weeks. See current list on FB page or msg us and we can send it over.

SAFETY INFORMATION
The core of the ropes was batch tested to a load of 2750 kg at the National Centre of Circus Arts, London UK, with DYNAFOR™ LLX device, minimal damage recorded.
The cover will wear out and tear with use. The expected lifetime of rope cover is 1-2 years depending on the intensity of use and can be re-covered for a discounted rate. If you have a person with aerial rigging knowledge to help, you can also buy an empty cover, and recover yourself.
Once purchased, safe use and maintenance is the responsibility of the customer. The manufacturer (Leo Ropes Ltd) will not accept any responsibility for damage, injury or death resulting from misuse.
Dispose of rope core 10 years after first use.
